RTÉ not to blame for Lally’s shame
RTÉ has hotly denied rumours that it drove former Glenroe star Mick Lally into prostitution. Station bosses have said that the long-running agri soap being axed earlier this year is not responsible for the saggy faced actor, who played saggy faced farmer Miley Byrne, being arrested for soliciting men in the Phoenix Park last weekend.
‘Lallly was selling his ass long before we axed Glenroe,’ said RTÉ chief Bob Collins, ‘and I’ve got the receipts to prove it. Mick is an attractive man and in many ways, it is a natural progression for him to trade on his good looks’. ‘Giving handjobs is not that different to milking cows, which Miley was certainly good at,’ quipped Collins.
In a statement read out by Lally’s solicitor, the star said: ‘All I was trying to do was make a few pound for a bite to eat, like.’ Lally’s embarrassing situation comes hot on the heels of news last week that Mary McEvoy, who for over a decade played Biddy Byrne in the show, was seen taking a half eaten sandwich out of a bin on O’Connell Street.
